Union Pacific EMD GP-15 light roadswitchers and tank cars at Hayford Junction. Chicago Illinois USA. May 1987.
I took this photograph one lovely Springtime afternoon back in May of 1987.
There was quiete a bit of working railroad activity going on during this particular visit, with many transfer trains entering and leaving from the Belt Railway of Chicago Clearing Yard. Two Union Pacific Railroad late 1970's era EMD model GP-15 light roadswitchers, are viewed switching a cut of cars at the Grand Trunk Western Railroad crosstracks at Hayford Junction. Ditch lights that are standard today on locomotive pilot beams were not in use back then. Notice the lack of UPY markings that Union Pacific uses today on locomotives designated for yard and terminal work.
