Early CSX Transportation Company train with former Seaboard System locomotives. Hayford Junction. Chicago Illinois. July 1989.

I took this photo during one of My many visits to Chicago's Hayford Junction way back in the 1980's.

The railroad known as todays CSX Transportation Company, was formed through the mergers of several eastern and southeastern regional and class 1 railroads during the mid 1980's.

One of the many railroads that made up todays CSX Transportation Co, was the short lived Seaboard System Railroad from the southeastern United States. Seen here a few years after the merger, is a westbound early CSX Transportation Company transfer train enroute to the nearby Belt Railway of Chicago Clearing Yard. The train is passing through the recently single tracked Grand Trunk Western crosstracks at Hayford Junction on Chicago's southwest side in the Ashburn neighborhood.
