Behind the scenes at The Illinois Railway Museum. Union Illinois USA. 1995.

I took this photo during a 1995 visit to the Illinois Railway Museum, located in the town of Union Illinois.

Although many people devote their time to photographing the many streetcars, locomotives and railcars either on display inside one of the many museum barns, or taking action photos of the operating antique rail equipment on the museum mainline...I occasionally take the time to photograph those important "Behind the scenes" images of museum operations.

Seen here near the south edge of the property facing north, is the museum's own steam locomotive shop. The various piles of stockpiled motors and metal parts outside the shop building, give this photo a working railroad character of it's own.

The shop buildings and supplies, are an ever important part of museum support operations at the Illinois Railway Museum.
