I took this photo during a recent visit to the Oak Park Society Of Model Engineers H.O Scale model railroad club, located in west suburban Oak Park Illinois.
A very impressive and masive site to see up close, is this unique scratchbuilt and still under xonstruction model of Chicago's long gone Grand Central Station.
The original Grand Central Station, I believe was erected during the late 1800's. This large brick industrial style building with a large grand clock tower, was located south of downtown Chicago Illinois along the Chicago River, in an area that now is the site of a riverfront condominium building.
The original Grand Central Station, wa owned and operated by the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad, and served daily passenger trains from the B & O, The Soo Line, and the C & O. The depot was closed for good in 1969, and I believe, may have possibly been demolished in 1971.
