I found this photo at My link page Fallen Flags.Org to the right of Your computer screen.

Wooden railroad cabooses were a popular steam era railroad icon in North America.
By the 1960's, their days were numbered. Many railroads had standardized on steel carbody designs for railroad cabooses several years before. Steel cabooses offered better safety for the onboard crew members.

Some railroads that operated wooden cabooses in to the 1960's included, the Grand Trunk Western, the New York Central, the Chicago, Burlington & Quincy and according to this historic black and white photo...the Chesapeke & Ohio Railroad. This photo shows a wooden C & O caboose in the modern yellow with blue markings, in a photo location listed as Detroit Michigan, during the year of 1961.

Wooden cabooses ended their careers on many railroads in local way freight service, transfer trains, and M.O.W or maintenance of way service.

Several wooden cabooses would wind up as diplays in railroad museum's.
