Growing up in the city of Chicago Illinois during the 1960's and 70's era, one
of My all time favorite local Children's television show, was WGN TV Channel 9's
"Bozo's Circus".
This very entertaining live action show, made it's debut in 1961. The show was originally hosted by the late great Ned Locke from 1961 until His retirement in 1976. Ned Locke hosted the show as a character named Ringmaster Ned. In 1976 until His untimely passing in 1985, the shows second host was Frazier Thomas, who also hosted Garfield Goose and Family Classics. The original Bozo The Clown in Chicago, was played by the late great Bob Bell from 1961 until His retirement in 1984.Chicag's last Bozo The Clown, was played by comedian Joey D' Auria from 1984 until 2001.
The show was an example of a "Live Show, Anything Goes" type of ad lib comedy.
Many times, things would not go as planned during the taping of the sketches, or even the show's Grand Prize Game, and everyone involved would have to litterally "Think On Their Feet" and sometimes..."Just Make Something Up Right There." Ha Ha Ha! I loved it when they would occasionally screw up on the air! Live bloopers are the best.
In the shows last incarnation as The Bozo Super Sunday Show, It was finally canceled after almost 40 years on the air in 2001.
