The aftermath of Chicago's Blizzard of 2011. Elmwood Park Illinois USA. Wednsday, February 2nd, 2011.

I took this photo in the afternoon, on Wednsday, February 2nd, 2011.

On Tuesday, February 1st, 2011, a severe heavy lake effect snowstorm with high winds blowing out of the east and low visibility, creatred a blizzard condition on the entire Chicago area. By the time the snow actually stopped falling around 11:00 AM on the day of this photo, a record 20.9 inches of snow fell on the entire Chicago area.

This view, shows the aftermath of the snowstorm. Many residential back yards were buried in heavy snow accumulations. Many local Chicagoans compared this one with the winter blizzard snowstorms of 1967 and 1979. When it was falling on the 1st of February, It was just like a desert sandstorm blowing in.

These past few days have seen outside temperatures in the upper 30's and low 40's, causing much melting activity on the ground and roofs on buildings in near northwest suburban Elmwood Park Illinois.
