Chicago Surface Lines car # 144 and former Aurora ,Elgin and Fox River electric streetcar. Illinois Railway Museum. Union Illinois USA.

This photograph was taken by Me sometime during the 1980's, at the Illinois Railway Museum. The car to the left is Chicago Surface Lines # 144, wich was built by Pulman Standard Car Company in 1908. This car carried day to day passengers on Chicago's streets, in the days before and after bus transit. It ran in regulair service until May of 1954. It was used on special chartered excursions until the end of electric streetcar service in June of 1958. The orange car to the right, is a lightweight suburban streetcar that originally worked for the Aurora, Elgin, and Fox River Railroad. After abandonement during the depression, it was sold to the Cleveland Ohio Transit system. During the 1950's, it was rebuilt and used on Cleveland's "Shaker Heights Rapid Transit System". In later years, it wound up at the Trolleyville Park tourist railroad in Olmstead Falls Ohio USA. Acquirred by The Illinois Railway Museum during the 1980's, this car is now undergoing restoration.
