I took this photo in northwest suburban Franklin Park Illinois, in January of 2007. A boxcar still rolling around in the colors and markings of the former Conrail, is seen heading eastbound through Franklin Park on a Canadian Pacific freight train. Conrail was created by the United States Govorment in 1976, by acquiring six very bankrupt northeastern United States railroads. Conrail lasted until it was bought out in a two way merger deal between CSX and Norfolk Southern in 1999.
