The CTA rapid transit yard in suburban Forest Park Illinois. March 17th 1985.

I took this photo on Sunday, March 17th 1985. During 1985 and 1986, the Illinois Railway Museum operated a late winter / early springtime series of fantrips billed as "The Snowflake Special". Both the 1985 and 1986 fantrips utilized 8 car trains of 1950's era 6000 series rapid transit cars built by the St. Louis Car Company, from salvaged electrical components acquired from scrapped CTA PCC electric streetcars. The 1985 trip utilized a couple of 5-50 series cars as well in the excursion consist.

We are looking west as our train temporarily enters the rapid transit yard at the west end of the line, on what was known then as the CTA Lake Street Elevated line at Harlem Avenue.

Many years latere in 1993, the Chicago Transit Authority began a system of color coding the rapid transit lines. This line became the CTA green line.
