For many people who grew up in Chicago's western suburbs prior to April of 1948, a great way to travel around the surrounding towns and to the Chicago city limits, was by the electric streetcars of the Chicago & West Towns Electric Railway.

This photo taken proboubly in the early 1940's, shows an eastbound streetcar from the Chicago & West Towns crossing the Des Plaines River on Lake Street, just east of First Avenue near Maywood Illinois.
