1970's era Illinois Central Gulf covered hopper. Hawthorne Junction. Chicago /Cicero Illinois. June 2008.

I took this photograph back in June of 2008.

One of My favorite Chicago railroads I had grown up with during the 1970's and 80's, was the former Illinois Central Gulf.

This railroad was created from the August 10th, 1972 merger of the Gulf, Mobile & Ohio...and the Illinois Central railroads.

Although the old ICG had become a fallen flag railroad sometime ago, one can still find a few pieces of orange 1970's era ICG cars rolling around on any given railroad line these days, before they are finally painted over or retired.

I spotted this 1970's era ICG covered hopper car, aboard a southbound Canadian National train traveling over the Belt Railway of Chicago through Hawthorne Junction back in June of 2008.
