When one visits the north suburban city of Skokie Illinois these days, it's almost hard to believe that a small family owned and operated amusement park had once stood along the southeast corner of Golf Road and Skokie Boulevard prior to 1969.

I found this photograph on the internet recently, from the Skokie Historical Society that was taken in 1960.

Seen here, is the Fun Fair Amusement Park, wich was one of several little seasonal family owned and operated amusement parks that had once existed in the greater Chicagoland area during the 1950's and 60's era. Most of the remaining parks like this, had vanished during the 1970's in the Chicago area.

Today this is the site of a tall Hilton Double Tree Inn Hotel, and the adjacent North Shore Center For The Performing Arts Theatre building.

Some sources say that the Fun Fair Amusement Park existed from 1960 to 1969. Other sources are certain that the park had opened for business around 1955 actually. Unfortunately, the history of this park was not documeneted very well, and the information is very sketchy at best.

Still, this was a great time to have grwon up in the greater Chicagoland area according to this, as there were once many family entertainment venues to visit during the summer season.

Thanks.
Eddie K.
