Chicago, Burlington & Quincy EMD GP 30 locomotive # 976 after a heavy snowstorm. Circa 1960's era.

One of the many railroads that had served Chicago when I was a little boy growing up on the near southwest side of Chicago during the 1960's, was the former Chicago, Burlington & Quincy Railroad.

The C,B & Q Chicago to Aurora Illinois commuter mainline, was located approximately one mile north of My old neighborhood on South Kedzie Avenue and west 21st Street in Chicago Illinois.

I fondly remember the red and gray color scheme that the Burlington had introduced around 1959, and I could remember seeing former C,B & Q engines rolling around in this color scheme for about 5 years after the C,B & Q had merged with the Great Northern, The Northern Pacific, and the Spokane, Portland & Seatle in March of 1970, becoming the Burlington Northern Railroad.

No information was given as to the location and year of this C,B & Q photograph from the Jim Parker
collection.

This could very well possibly have been taken during Chicago's infamous January Blizzard of 1967.

Thanks.
Eddie K.
