Railfan photographer Fred C. Stoes, photographed early 1900's era Western Pacific 4-6-0 Ten Wheeler steam locomotive # 77 in the yard at Stockton California in May of 1952.
Diesels were rapidly taking over the assignments of the remaining Western Pacific steam locomotives at this time. Locomotives like # 77 shown here, were mainly used on short light passenger trains and some local freights.
