For many years, the city of Chicago Illinois was actually known as the railroad capitol of the United States of America. Unfortunately, several of the railroads that had served Chicago and helped to make it the nation's railroad capitol, have disappeared through merger acquisitions, and became fallen flag railroads.
One of those now fallen flag railroads that I fondly remember growing up in Chicago during the 1960's and 70's era, was the former Chicago & NorthWestern Railroad.
I spotted this historic photograph from the Chicago & NorthWestern Railroad circa 1975, at My link page Fallen Flags.Org, located to the right of Your computer screen at http://www.rr-fallenflags.org/
Even though the Chicago & NorthWestern Railroad had once owned several standard cupola style cabooses in past years, they gave up early on them, and blanked over the upper cupola windows during the 1940's, and eventually had standardized on the single leval bay window style of caboose.
Railfan photographer Bill Phillips, photographed this Chicago 7 NorthWestern bay window caboose at a location listed as Chicago Illinois on May 18th, 1975.
I could be wrong, but judging by the background in this photograph....this picture could have possibly been taken at the Chicago & NorthWestern Railroad's Proviso Yard in Maywood Illinois, near Chicago's O'Hare International Airport.
Thanks.
Eddie K.
