The 1914 built Grand Trunk Western Railroad's Elsdon Roundhouse on South Kedzie Avenue. ( Gone.) Chicago Illinois USA. October 1983.
I took this photo one lovely Autum afternoon in October of 1983. This was the Grand Trunk Western Railroad 1914 built steam era roundhouse, wich had served motive power for many years at the Grand Trunk Western Railroad,Elsdon Yard facility. The railroad roundhouse seen here, was located at South Kedzie Avenue at approximately West 49th Street. Here it is seen in it's final week of operation. The GTW closed Elsdon Yard in October of 1983, and moved their operations to the Belt Railway of Chicago Clearing Yard in Bedford Park Illinois. The roundhouse was later demolished around late 1987 or early 1988, and the site was redeveloped and replaced with a small retail stripmall.
