Southbound Belt Railway of Chicago switching local. Hawthorne Junction. Chicago / Cicero Illinois USA. March 1987.
I took this photo in March of 1987, at the place now known as Hawthorne Junction. Back then, there was an old brick interlocking tower gaurding the train traffic through the crosstracks known as Belt Tower. The tower was burned and demolished in 1990. A southbound BRC local, is seen crossing the Illinois Central Gulf crosstracks through this junction on a sunny afternoon in March of 1987. Hawthorne Junction is located directly on the Chicago city limits border, at west suburban Cicero Illinois.
