Westbound Amtrak train passing through Brighton Junction. Chicago Illinois USA. January 1988.

Westbound Amtrak passing over the CSX / Conrail crosstracks at Brighton Junction. Chicago Illinois. January 1988.

I took this photo on a dry but cold Winter afternoon, in January of 1988. We are looking north toward the crosstracks at Chicago's Brighton Junction, located on an elevated railroad embankment just west of the intersection of South Archer and Western Avenues. A short Amtrak regional passenger train possibly enroute to Springfield Illinois or St. Louis Missouri, is seen passing over the Norfolk Southern and CSX Railroad crosstracks, as it heads southwestwardly over the Illinois Central Railroad's former Gulf, Mobile & Ohio Railroad mainline through the junction.
