The historic 1950's era Hamburger Heavan drive in restaurant. Elmhurst Illinois USA. July 2008.
Hi everybody!
Welcome aboard Eddie's Railfan Page.
Chicago's Winter of 2009 was long, cold, and full of heavy lake effect snow accumulations. The good news is that it is now "March", and Springtime is just around the corner and approaching very soon in the Greater Chicagoland Area.
For all of those out there like Myself who are absolutely "Sick" of Winter already, Here is a happy photographic reminder of the warmer weather seasons to come.
I took this photo one hot summer night in July of 2008. This is the very architecturally historic 1950's era Hamburger Heavan drive in restaurant, in northwest suburban Elmhurst Illinois. This is a seasonal street corner hamburger and fast food grill, located on the southeast corner of North Avenue / Illinois U.S Route # 64, and York Street in the town of Elmhurst Illinois. Although fast food chains like Mc.Donald's, Arby's, wendy's, KFC, Taco Bell and Burger King have largely taken over in recent decades.....It is still nice to know that there is an occasional place like this from the American baby boomer era still around. During the 1950's and 60's, the greater Chicagoland Area had many Drive In roadside hamburger restaurants and ice cream stands. Some even had car hop service. Unfortunately, most were gone by the mid 1970's.
This old 1950's drive in restaurant with a walk up window, is bound to bring back happy summer memorys from Chicagolands past.

I have been going to Hamburger Heaven for over 30 years. Every year my daughter, my sister and I race to see who can go there first.
Living in White Plains NY now, but get to Elmhurst often to visit family, and have a double cheesburger with everything at Hamburger Heaven. My family used to drive from Chicago just for that purpose in the 50's. I'm so glad it's a survivor.
I used to live a block and a half from Hamburger Heaven back in my high school days-- I'm old and gray now-- out in California and literally salivating thinking about the double cheeseburgers, chocolate malts and PERFECT fries! I'll have to find an excuse to get to Chicago this summer to satisfy the craving that never goes away!
