Wintertime on West 26th Street in Chicago's Little Village neighborhood. Chicago Illinois. January 2009.

Hi everyone!
Welcome aboard Eddie's Railfan Page.
I am a native Chicagoan Myself, who hails from the near southwest side of the city.
I actually grew up in Chicago's Little Village neighborhood near West 26th Street during the 1960's and 1970's.

In Chicago and other citties in North America, You could leave Your old neighborhood communities at any time during Your life for any number of reasons, and one day find Yourself passing through it one day just staring in wonder and amazement at what business is still there, wich ones are not, the street You lived on, Your old childhood house or apartment building, The grammer school You went to, the old church that Your family worshipped at, or even the old playground or vacant lot You played in with the other neighborhood kids when You grew up there.

I was heading westbound on West 26th Street, when I was taking a traffic detour during rush hour enroute to My Parents house in Bridgeview Illinois. Although the local ethnic population has long since changed form Eastern European to Mexican and other Hispanic groups along time ago....It was "Great" just seeing the old place again for the first time in a number of years! We are looking west on West 26th Street east of South Central Park Avenue. I could remember shopping for clothes at that Zemsky department Store to the left of the photo during the 1960's and 70's. My Family frequently took long walks from South Spaulding Avenue to South Pulaski Road in this old shopping district, and We were in much better shape physically too.

Although the old Goldblatts Department Store at West 26th Street and South Spaulding Avenue has long since been demolished and replaced with a Grocery store, This is My old neighborhood I grew up in. I always enjoyed dining on Authentic Mexican cuisine
on West 26th Street growing up in this old southside Chicago neighborhood.

Chicago neighborhoods. Gotta love them.

Thank You.
Eddie K.

Do ya remember getting followed around in Zemsky's, by every employee?....lol...I've always hated that about that store!
