Westbound CTA Skokie Swift train. Skokie Illinois USA. Friday, January 30th 2009.
I took this photo facing north, at the Kostner Avenue, Chicago Transit Authority Yellow Line rapid transit line. Known since 1964 as the Skokie Swift, this line was originally the Skokie Valley Mainline of the Chicago, North Shore & Milwaukee electric interurban railroad prior to the January 21st, 1963 closing and abandonement due to bankruptcy. The segment between Howard Street station in Evanston, and the Dempster Street station in Skokie was saved by the CTA and reopened in April of 1964 as the "Skokie Swift". Today it is the CTA Yellow Line. A westbound CTA Yellow line train, is seen at the Kostner Avenue railroad crossing on a crystal clear winter afternoon in January of 2009. It was only 13 Degrees Farenheight above zero on this day.
