On Friday, October 31st, 2008, I attended a very special "Open House" public relations event aimed at local railfan photographers, hosted by the Central Illinois Railroad in Chicago's Pilsen neighborhood. The kind people at the Central Illinois Railroad, let us photograph their equipment at their headquarters and storage yard at 918 West Cermak Road. They also let us chase a working freight train on their former Burlington Northern industrial branchline.
I took this photo inside the locomotive cab, during a switching movement layover period on South Paulina Avenue. I asked the locomotive engineer very nicely, and was invited to take some behind the scenes photos inside the cab of EMD SW-9 # 1206.
This is the foreward facing view normally seen only by railroads at work.
