A favorite summertime activity shared by many Chicagoans and people from other parts of our nation, are the visits to the local roadside drive in restaurants that specialize in soft serve ice cream.
I took this photo one evening in early September of 2006. Seen here is the locally popular Polar Bear ice cream drive in restaurant on West Cermak Road in west suburban North Riverside Illinois. This very seasonal roadside drive in soft serve ice cream stand, is located on the southside of West Cermak Road, aka West 22nd Street, just east of Des Plaines Avenue. I have been going here on and off since the mid 1970's. It is definately a refreshing summer treet just to stop in on a hot day.
