The Indiana Harbor Belt Railroad's Argo Yard. Summit Illinois USA. January 2007.

The Indiana Harbor Belt RR Argo Yard. Summit Illinois. January 2007.

One of My personal favorite railfan photo locations I enjoy visiting occasionally in Chicago's near southwest suburbs, is the modest but very active Indiana Harbor Belt Railroad Argo Yard in the village of Summit Illinois.

I took this photo looking west of the intersection at South Archer Road / Illinois U.S Route # 171 and West 63rd Street near the yard office and employee parking area.
West 63rd Street ends at this point, being cut off by the train yard itself.

While not very glamorous here in blue collar and gritty looking Summit, the IHB has many freight trains passing through the yard here from other railroads, plus there are switching movements to be made here at anytime by an IHB yard switcher or road locomotives that are stationed here.

If You can survive the smell from the nearby Corn Products plant, than You might want to stop by and snatch a few work a day railroad photos here like Me.
