The 1914 built Grand Trunk Western Railroad Elsdon roundhouse at South Kedzie Avenue and West 49th Street. ( Gone.) Chicago Illinois USA. October 1983
I took this photo on Chicago's southwest side way back in October of 1983.
For many years, the Grand Trunk Western Railroad's 1914 built roundhouse at South Kedzie Avenue and What would approximately be West 49th Street, was a local landmark in Chicago's Elsdon neighborhood.
I took this photo in October of 1983, and unfortunately....this old steam era icon from Chicago's railroading history past was in it's last week of operation. The roundhouse would sit abandoned until it was finally demolished in late 1987.
Today this is the site of a outdoor retail strip mall.
