Chicago Transit Authority 1983 Canadian Flyer work bus # WB-2. Chicago Illinois. July 2006.

Hello everyone!

Welcome aboard the "Bus Day" edition of Eddie's Railfan Page.
The first "Bus Day" edition of 2010 mind You.

I took this photo in July of 2006 on the northside of Chicago around the Wrigleyville neighborhood.

Seen here parked underneath the Chicago Transit Authority's Red line elevated rapid transit structure, is retired /demoted Chicago Transit Authority work bus # WB-2. This bus is a 1983 Canadian Flyer transit bus that originally hauled bus commuters around Chicago, but has since been pressed in to maintenance work bus service.

The 1983 Flyer buses from Canada seemed to have a short service life on the CTA, as many were retired and removed from the roster during the early to mid 1990's. Originally painted a two tone green and off white color scheme upon delivery, many were later repainted in this color scheme that was introduced in 1989.

Work buses are service vechicles modified from older buses that are either at or past their normal service lives mechanically. Many times often, seats are removed and storage space for 55 gallon steel drums, tool cabinets, welding gas cylinders, shovels, electrical generators and other maintenance dept apparatus becomes created.

Tools are the new passengers.
