Chicago Transit Authority 1950's era 6000 series rapid transit car demoted to maintenance and snowplow service. Kimball Avenue terminal. Chicago Illinois. Early April 1986., a photo by Eddie from Chicago on Flickr.
On most any given year, the Illinois Railway Museum will sometimes operate an early Springtime fantrip over the CTA rapid transit lines in Chicago. This chartered fantrip has been refered to as the "Snowflake Special".
I took this photo back in early April of 1986.
The 1986 edition of the IRM Snowflake Special chartered fantrip, featured several soon to be retired 1950's era Chicahgo Transit Authority 6000 series lightweight rapid transit cars. Two of the cars that are shown here in yellow paint, were already demoted to maintenance service sometime before.
This photo was taken at what is today the CTA's brown line terminal at West Lawrence and North Kimball Avenues in Chicago Illinois, at the end of the day's charter trip.
The CTA did not begin color coding their rapid transit routes in Chicago until 1993. When this photo was taken, this route was known as the CTA Ravenswood Elevated Line.
