Former Illinois Central diesel locomotives on the head end of a Canadian National freight train. Crawford Yard. Chicago Illinois. June 2007., a photo by Eddie from Chicago on Flickr.
I took this photograph after work one afternoon, back in June of 2007.
A westbound Canadian National freight train with former Illinois Central locomotives up front that were acquired through merger, wait for clearance to depart from the former Illinois Central Railroad's Crawford Yard in Chicago Illinois.
Several north and south transfer trains traveling over the nearby Belt Railway of Chicago tracks at Hawthorne Junction, had the crosstracks all tied up for a good lenght of time with several trains entering and leaving the BRC Clearing Yard near Midway Airport.
Soon this train would recieve clearance from the dispatcher, and head west over the former Illinois Central's Iowa Division Mainline.
In 2011, the Canadian National closed the former I.C Crawford Yard and removed the tracks.
Thanks.
Eddie K.
