25 Years ago this month, The GTW closes Elsdon Yard. Chicago Illinois USA. October 1983.

Locomotives being serviced at the Grand Trunk Western RR Elsdon engine terminal. Chicago Illinois USA. October 1983.

I took this photo just north of West 51st Street near South Kedzie avenue in Chicago's Elsdon neighborhood. Seen here in it's very last week of operation,
is the GTW Elsdon roundhouse and locomotive terminal. Locomotives from the
GTW and Detroit, Toledo & Ironton that were acquired through merger in the
year of 1981, are seen idling on the ready tracks. The following week, this
site was abandoned and forelorned. Today it is the site of a strip mall.

I grew up along the Elsdon main line at 55st.

A very sad day in this history of Chicago railroading.
