I took this photo during a September 1984 visit to the Illinois Railway Museum in the town of Union Illinois. The occasion was the museum's Member's Day Weekend.
Aside from all of the extra museum equipment that was operated during the special occasion, was this added photographic bonus upon departing the museum at the end of the day.
Operating adjacent to the Illinois Railway Museum's own demonstration mainline, is the Union Pacific Railroad's own branchline serving nearby Belvidere Illinois. It also interchanges with the Illinois Railway Museum as well. Back in 1984, this was the Chicago & Northwestern Railroad passing through Union Illinois.
Seen here is the eastbound Chicago & NorthWestern Railroad "Belvidere Turn" photographed near the Olson Road railroad crossing in Union Illinois.
A nice way to wrap up the days activities.
