The front nose detail on a Metra, Motive Power Industries MPI model MP-36 PH passenger locomotive. Elmwood Park Illinois. Febuary 2008.

I took this photo one sunny Winter afternoon back in Febuary of 2008.

An eastbopund Metra commuter local enroute to Chicago Union Station, has just arrived at the Elmwood Park Metra commuter rail station and was idling while I took this picture.

An often overlooked but still very important aspect of railfan photography, are those occasional up close detail shots. This photo shows the reflective safety decal striping, the recessed headlights and tail lights, the electrical connections, air brake hose, and contours of this modern streamlined carbody.

Motive Power Industries, is the succesor company to the Morrison Knudson Corporation of Boise Idaho. Morrison Knudson Corporation was a locomotive rebuilder that did heavy contract work with many class 1 railroads during the 1970's and 80's.
MPI does this as well as have their own catalog line of commuter train locomotives.
