Grand Trunk Western freight train approaching the southbound interchange conection at Hayford Junction. Chicago Illinois. January 1987.

I took this photo at Hayford Junction one Saturday afternoon way back in January of 1987. A heavy all morning lake effect snowstorm has dumped several inches of snow accumulations around the greater Chicagoland area on this day.

I arrived at Hayford Junction approximately an hour after it had stopped snowing, and spent the afternoon photographing 35 MM images of Chicago winter railroading.

This eastbound GTW freight train is viewed departing from the nearby Belt Railway of Chicago Clearing Yard. This train is viewed entering the interchange curve track connection at Hayford Junction, and will soon be heading southbound over the Grand Trunk Western Railroad mainline.

I was up to My shins in snow that day to take this photo, but it was worth it all.
