The Grand Trunk Western Elsdon Yard locomotive terminal. (Gone.) Chicago Illinois USA. October 1983.

I took this photo during the official last week of operation at the GTW Elsdon Yard roundhouse, way back in October of 1983.

The Grand Trunk Western Railroad operated an old steam era railroad roundhouse built in 1914, located at West 49th Street and South Kedzie Avenue on the southwest side in Chicago's Elsdon neighborhood. This trio of EMD roadswitchers, are seen on the ready tracks at the Elsdon Engine Terminal just north of West 51st Street.

This site today has been redeveloped into a medium sized outdoor retail strip mall. The CTA Orange line to Midway Airport passes behind these locomotives today.
