Southbound Belt Railway of Chicago switching local. Hawthorne Junction. Chicago Illinois USA. March 1987.

I took this photo at the Chicago city limits near Cicero Illinois, on a sunny but chilly afternoon in March of 1987. A southbound BRC switching local is crossing the Illinois Central crosstracks at Hawthorne Junction just east of the border at Cicero Illinois. Back then, there was an old dirty looking interlocking tower that was known as Belt Tower, wich stood on the southeast corner of the crosstracks. A railroad crew I spoke to refered to it as ICG /BELT Tower. A railfan wrote Me later on and said that the tower was controlled by the Illinois Central, and was called "Belt Tower".
The tower was demolished in 1990.
