Abandoned former Chicago & NorthWestern Railroad industrial switching branchline. Wilmette Illinois. July 2010.

I took this photo one morning last week, in north suburban Wilmette Ilinois.

This remnant of a one time Chicago & NorthWestern Railroad industrial switching branchline, was photographed on West Park Drive at the intesection of Lake Avenue.

This line operated immediately adjacent to what was once the Skokie Valley Mainline of the Chicago, North shore And Milwaukee
electric interurban railroad.

After the Union Pacific acquired the former Chicago & NorthWestern Railroad through merger in 1995, this lightly patronized branchline was soon abandoned.

A large sign alongside Niles Center Road in Skokie Illinois just south of here, is proclaiming a proposed Rails to Trails project regarding this abandoned C & N,W railroad right of way.
