Western Pacific EMD FP-7 and cab unit locomotives on a freight train. Stockton Yard. Stockton California 1971.

I found this very historic early 1970's era photo on the internet recently.

Western Pacific Railroad EMD F units in the silver and orange color scheme, are seen waiting to depart from the train yard in Stockton California. This photo was taken on a very gray and overcast, possibly Winter day in the year of 1971.

The Western Pacific operated some of their EMD First Generation cab unit F-7 model diesel locomotives from the late 1940's and early 1950's era, longer than most railroads had done well in to the 1970's, and up to the merger with the Union Pacific in 1982.

Four of these from the Western Pacific have been preserved in railroad museums. Other late users of EMD First Generation cab unit diesels were...The Chicago, Rock Island & Pacific, The Milwaukee Road, The Chicago & NorthWestern, and the Canadian National Railroad.
