Chicago Surface Lines electric streetcar # 144. The Illinois Railway Museum. Union Illinois USA. August 2006.
In the days before buss, and just after......Many Chicagoans commuted
to and from their jobs and other destinations via these then standard
double ended electric trolley cars. CSL car # 144 was built in 1908 by
the Pulman Standard Car Company of Chicago, and operated in daily transit
service on Chicago city streets until May of 1954.
It stayed on the succesor company Chicago Transit Authority's roster
until the end of Chicago streetcar service on June 21st, 1958.
It was used for occasional chartered fantrips and specials in it's
final years of CTA service. Today it hauls passengers on the museum's
demonstration trolley loop that circles the grounds of the property.
