Northbound BNSF Railway light engine movement. Hawthorne Junction. Chicago / Cicero Illinois. June 2008.
An afternoon at Hawthorne Junction can present a lot of transfer train movements at the Chicago city limits on any given day. A northbound 4 unit set of BNSF Railway EMD diesel electric roadswitchers, cross over the Canadian National ex Illinois Central crosstracks, and return to the nearby BNSF Railway Clyde Yard in west suburban Cicero Illinois. Although orange and dark green are the official colors of the BNSF Railway, many of their locomotives are still rolling around in their former railroad color scemes and markings, albeit with BNSF on the cab sides.
