1950's era CTA 6000 series cars on the Snowflake Special fantrip. Chicago Illinois USA. March 17th, 1985.
On March 17th, 1985...I think that it may have been on a Sunday, the Illinois Railway Museum located in Union Illinois, operated this rapid transit chartered fantrip excursion over the Chicago Transit Authority's rapid transit lines. The chartered excursion was advertised as "The Snowflake Special", and traveled over all of the CTA lines except for the Skokie Swift. The 6000 series cars were built from electrical and running gear components from retired and scrapped Chicago Transit Authority PCC electric streetcars. I believe that this photo may have been taken on the former Douglas Park Elevated line near Western Avenue. Today, this is the CTA Pink Line.
