I bought this old railroad picture postcard, proboubly at a stamp collectors show or a flea market during the 1980's.
The locomotive shown here, is an EMD GP-7 roadswitcher from the Chicago, Rock Island & Pacific Railroad. This locomotive originally wore a colorful red and black color scheme with elaborate white stripes. This early paint scheme was difficult and expensive to maintain. By the late 1950's and early 60's, the Rock Island switched to this simpler reddish brown scheme with white striping seen here. The Chicago, Rock Island & Pacific was a major railroad in the city of Chicago Illinois. The Rock Island struggled with bankruptcy issues during it's final years, and went out of the railroad business during Febuary of 1980.
