The original 1947 Chicago Transit Authority logo. The Illinois Railway Museum. Union Illinois USA. August 2006.

The red circle shown here, is the original logo that the Chicago Transit Authority used, when the agency was formed in November of 1947. This logo is seen on CTA PCC electric streetcar number # 4391. This car was built by the St.Louis Car Company in 1948, and operated on Chicago's city streets for only 10 years. This is the only modern CTA streetcar to be preserved from any of the later orders.
After streetcar service ended on June 21st 1958, practically the entire fleet was cut up for scrap, and the electrical components recycled to make new 6000 series rapid transit cars.
Some of the CTA buses recieved this color image.

I'd be interested in a framed picture of that logo...know where you might be able to find one of those?

Very nice. Is that picture from the Kenosha rail car?

Hi Zmonteca.
The Illinois Railway Museum in Union Illinois might be able to help You with the logo. The museum gift shop just might have something like that in stock if You ask them.

This particulair streetcar in the photo, is CTA # 4391 built in 1948.
It has operated at the Illinois Railway Museum for many years.
The museum gift shop has a video or two on Chicago streetcars. Also, the hobby store known as Berwyn Toy Trains on Ogden Avenue has a video about the Illinois Railway Museum for $24.95 on DVD.

Thank You.
Eddie.
