The Grand Trunk Western Railroad's Elsdon Roundhouse and turntable pit. Chicago Illinois USA. December 1984.

I was enjoying a Saturday afternoon walk in the area of the abandoned GTW Elsdon Yard, back in early December of 1984. Seen here one year after the October 1983 abandonment, is the roundhouse that was located at west 49th Street and south Kedzie Avenue in the city of Chicago.
This is an excellent behind the scenes view of the turntable pit, and the backside of the roundhouse. This was an old steam era facility that was in use from 1914 to 1983. The old roundhouse was torn down in 1987, and today a strip mall now occupies the site.
