Northbound CTA Evanston line train at the Isabella Street railroad crosiing. Wilmette Illinois USA. Circa late 1960's.

I found this very rare photo on the internet recently, at a site known as Dave's Electric Railroads on My links page to the right of Your computer screen.

It was a pure delight for for Me, finding this old photo at a location I began railfanning at in recent times. Wow!

Prior to todays color coding system used by the Chicago Transit Authority since 1993, the various CTA rapid transit elevated and subway lines were refered to by route names. Todays CTA Purple line, was originally the CTA Evanston Line or was refered to as their Evanston Service.

This photo appears to be taken at some time during the late 1960's or early 1970's.
We are looking south from the Isabella Street railroad crosssing in north suburban Wilmette Illinois. This route featured overhead wire and trolley pole operation until April of 1973, when the entire line was converted to 100 percent third rail operation.

These old 1920's era elevated rapid transit cars acquired in 1947 from the CTA predecessor company known as The Chicago Rapid Transit Company, were in their last years of CTA service. Several have been preserved at the Illinois Railway Museum in Union Illinois, The Fox River Trolley Museum in South Elgin Illinois, the East Troy Electric Railroad and Museum in East Troy Wisconsin, and the Seashore Trolley Museum in Kennebunkport Maine.

Thanks again for all of your photos. I grew up in these areas and remember the way it used to be. Hate to say the "good ole days" but in a way they were..... the drive-in fast food places, etc. You are doing a great service documenting the Chicago area.

I'm not in the Chicago area any longer, but it will always be home.

I remember in high school, taking the CTA down Archer into downtown on New Years Eve....ahhhh what memories.

Do you have an e-mail page for direct contact?
Thanks
