I took this photo in October of 2008.
We are facing west on West Cermak Road in Chicago's Pilsen neighborhood near the intersection of Canalport Avenue. A freshly repainted Central Illinois Railroad EMD SW 1200 Yard Switcher locomotive # 1206, is viewed pushing a cut of cars westbound.
The event was an "Open House" for local photographers and railfans that was hosted by the Central Illinois Railroad. Locomotive # 1206 had just recently been painted in a "Heritage" color scheme honoring the pre 1970 fallen flag railroad Chicago, Burlington & Quincy. The C,B & Q and later the Burlington Northern had switched the various industries on this branchline railroad. Today the line is privately owned. The trackage is leased from the BNSF Railway.
