Brandy's drive in restaurant at the intersection of North Harlem and West Avondale Avenues. Chicago Illinois. Late August 2010.

I took this photo after work recently, in late August of 2010.

Brandy's drive in restaurant located today at North Harlem and West Avondale Avenues, had it's beginings in Chicago's own Chicago Lawn neighborhood on the southwest side of the city on South Pulaski Road at West 61st Street during the 1980's.

Prior to Brandy's opening on South Pulaski Road during the early to mid 1980's, the original take out fast food restaurant it had replaced...was the old 1960's era Vi Vi's Drive In. Vi Vi's Drive In had a rooftop neon sign, a walk up window, and hot if not more often "Greasy" fast food favorites. I believe that it was located across the street from the famous Izzy Rizzy's Trick Shop novelty store.

Before Pizza Puffs were popular, the original Vi Vi's Drive In served a pizza puff pastry item that they had called a "Pizza Freet". It was good.

Brandy's eventually sold their South Pulaski Road location near Midway Airport, and today it is now the Los Comale's Mexican take out restaurant.

If any other of My fellow southsiders remember Brandy's and actually miss it, here it is on the northside of Chicago today. Still serving great Gyros too just like in the old days on the southside.
