Suburban Pace buses at the CTA Dempster Street terminal. Skokie Illinois. July 2008.

Hi everyone!

Welcome aboard the "Bus Day" edition of Eddie's Railfan Page.

I took this photo on a hot summer morning, back in July of 2008.
We are facing north at the intermodal Chicago Transit Authority's
Dempster Street yellow line rapid transit terminal, in north suburban Skokie Illinois.

Two suburban Pace buses, are viewed idling at the terminal.
The overhead high tension power line towers in the background, are a surviving remnant of the former Chicago, North Shore And Milwaukee electric interurban railroad, as they mark the location formerly known as the right of way for their Skokie Valley Mainline.

The Chicago, North Shore And Milwaukee also used the Dempster Street station terminal, wich was originally named "Niles Center", until the railroad was abandoned in January of 1963 due to bankruptcy.

The CTA yellow line, wich is also known as the Skokie Swift, began using a rebuilt and salvaged 5 mile segment of this line begining in April of 1964, from the Howard Street terminal in Evanston Illinois.
The line termionates here at Dempster Street today, and is also served by CTA, Pace and Grayhound buses.
