I took this photo on Chicago's southwest side in early April of 1985. This scene was photographed looking north from West 51st Street, at what was originally the Grand Trunk Western Elsdon Yard site. Elsdon Yard had officially closed in October of 1983, but for some reason or another....a small locomotive and crew terminal operation was maintained by the small Elsdon Yard office north of West 51st Street untill September of 1986.Locomotive # 5823 is seen idling in the chilly early Springtime afternoon sunshine. Occasionally locomotives were fueled here via tank truck.
