I took this photo after work one summer afternoon in June of 2007. A southbound Canadian Pacific transfer train is seen passing a northbound transfer train on the Belt Railway of Chicago trackage at Hawthorne Junction near Cicero Illinois. This is a very busy train watching location with numerous heavy transfer freight trains passing through here.

Eddie,
Which would you say is busier, generally: this location or McCook?
I would proboubly have to say this one. However...just like Mc Cook, this junction is also known for it's occasional quiet moments too.
This location is on private but accessible property ( On Foot.)
at approximately West 33rd Street about four blocks west of South Kostner Avenue. This is at the Chicago city limits just east of Cicero Illinois.
Mc Cook has it's busy moments too. This one has a lot of heavy and slow moving transfer freight trains on the north and south Belt Railway of Chicago line. There are also interchange movements on the CN ex IC Iowa Division Mainline to and from Hawthorne Yard in Cicero Illinois.
Most of the trains through here are Run Throughs by other railroads over the Belt Railway of Chicago.
Thank You.
Eddie K.
