I took this photo way back in October of 1989.

We are at the Chicago Ridge Metra commuter rail station, near southwest suburban Oak Lawn Illinois.

The former Wabash Railroad line, today is operated by Chicago's Metra commuter rail service, providing Monday thru Friday service between Chicago and Manhattan Illinois.
Freight trains on this portion of the line are rare, except for a small handful of Norfolk Southern Railroad switching locals, that operate as extras on this line, and service the few remaining industrial spur sidings on this route.

This was a rare and pleasant surprise, when I spotted this westbound or "Southwest Bound" Norfolk Southern freight train passing through the Chicago Ridge Metra commuter rail station, during a Sunday afternoon bicycle ride I was enjoying.
